Statement

The award-winning years of LA VOZ: 1998-2003. My role: Editor (Jefe de Redacción) and Senior Writer. Written as a guide to success, La Voz has helped many Latinos find their way and get ahead in the USA. We covered topics in health, education, personal finance, entrepreneurship and others. During my tenure I interviewed Latin stars such as Celia Cruz, Marc Anthony, Edward James Olmos, La India, Jorge Ramos, Hector Barreto, Ray Suarez, Jaime Escalante, Juan Gonzalez, and others. Also, non-Latins such as Laura Bush, and non-stars (or perhaps the real stars) such as Hispanic students on scholarships at Harvard University, older Latinos going back to school, and many entrepreneurs and other community leaders across the USA. Minnesota Hispanic community leaders covered: Irene Gomez-Bethke, Roma Calatayud Stocks, and Jessica Meza. Also worked with the Mexican government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and it's Department of Mexican Communities Abroad, to promote the "Este es mi Mexico" children art contest every year.
