Statement

"And Now It Still Mumurs... the First Words," is based on an image of a painter/scribe from a prehispanic Maya codex. The title describes the act of creation as recorded in the Popol Vuh of the K'iche'.
The artist holds a paint brush as wisps of something like smoke, the mesoamerican symbol for speech, issue from its mouth. Both words and art are acts of creation in the Maya worldview. Art in Western society is often recognized as the creation of multiple realities - interpretations of the world around us.
The words of creation still murmur. Our ancestors are still with us and have been since the beginning. The creative forces are still with us. We must value these forces and share them with our children. We must not forget and we must never be silenced.
