Statement

"Who is the art for? What is it supposed to do? Who can make it and who cannot? Whose voice as an artist is heard and whose is not? I think I would like to see the future of artmaking in our culture be one of a breaking down of media-specific barriers and an embrace of all the varieties of aesthetic that humans can dream up. What the traditional historic fiber media can offer is entry and development of the aesthetic of "touch." The most important thing to me is that the techniques of fiberart are domestic techniques, because everybody, men and women both, have their core personal dramas enacted in the domestic setting. It isn't just the female voice that has been silenced! What has been silenced in cultural engagement is any reference to our lived experience day to day!"
