Program description:

Sharon Mansur's "Off White" is a reflection of her investigations into her Lebanese-American background and her sense of feeling not quite White. The full work premiered at Dance Place in Washington, DC in March 2005 and will be presented at the Goose Route Dance Festival (WV) and Capital Fringe Festival (DC) in July 2006.

The creation of "Off White" was supported, in part, by the Virginia Commission on the Arts.

Sharon Mansur is a contemporary dance artist recently relocated to Minnesota from the Washington, DC metro area and the Artistic Director of mansurdance. Her interdisciplinary choreography and improvisational work have been presented throughout the East Coast, in England and in Argentina, and she has received support from The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Dance Place, Virginia Commission for the Arts, Maryland State Arts Council, the Bossak-Heilbron Charitable Foundation, and the West Virginia Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Since 1991 Sharon has collaborated with numerous U.S. and international contemporary dance and music artists, and performed for two seasons in New York City with Sara Rudner. She is a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst, and currently teaches at Winona State University. www.mansurdance.com

The Mankato based RakStar Fusion Dance Troupe will present the choreography of Carla Bode and Channa Purhmann with live music by Soule. RakStar Fusion Dance Troupe will showcase an eclectic blend of modern, jazz, and gypsy veil dancing to live music. Performers will range from high school to college students to working adults. DRP Dance presents “ Once There” with choreography by Danielle Robinson-Prater, performed to the original music of local composer Ben Siems. A work focusing on the lack or the fulfillment of life’s partnerships. Also, presenting “Always” an excerpt of “Coal Trials” and “Truth-Force” a selection from “Glass Works”. “Coal Trials” is a study of Appalachian coal mining families and the roles of women within the family, utilizing traditional folk dancing and modern technique. “Glass Works” is a collection of minimalist movement studies to the music of Philip Glass.

Cara De Lavallade presents "Drink and Dress." Six American bridesmaids party hard to pleasantly assembled traditions and top 40 hits, embracing glittery excess in uncomfortable shoes.

Cara De Lavallade recently graduated with a degree in Psychology from Macalester College where she danced and studied dance composition. Having performed for two years in Macalester’s dance ensemble, she is also a recipient of the departments David Wick Choreographic Award. Her work has been performed in the most recent Zenon Block-E Scholarship show as well as at the Anderson Center in Red Wing. She has choreographed on rooftops and water towers, in roller skates and bridesmaid dresses, dutifully investigating those weird things that we do as humans, how they happen, and why.
